COMMUNITY SERVICE: From the beginning of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Inc. service has been the basis of the sorority.
Listed below are some of the various service activities and events that Binghamton Colony has participated in:
Through the countless hours each sister has spent doing service, we feel that we truly get a sense of who we are when we are out helping others. Through the hours of service, we feel that it provides us with an opportunity to grow and create a deep bond with those in the community. There exists a bond so deep that one can only achieve by looking straight into the eyes of the children and see the pure innocence that they possess. Service provides us with an opportunity to grow and develop our Sisterhood. It provides us a chance to strengthen our spirit and rejuvenate our society’s spirit. Since 2002, the Binghamton Colony Sisters have dedicated their time and energy to help out as many local organizations as possible. Our service events range from making holiday cards for Broome County Meals On Wheels, which are distributed within the community, lending a hand at abuse shelters, participating in community sponsored walks, to volunteering every week at a local soup kitchen for children.

PHILANTHROPY: Delta Kappa Delta’s philanthropy is child abuse awareness and prevention. We chose this cause as our philanthropy because child abuse is such a widespread ailment in society, reaching from the most industrious nations and cities to the most impoverished villages in the world. Our commitment in raising awareness and prevention of child abuse is done through educating adults and children about the different types of physical, mental, and emotional abuse that a child can endure. Every day, more than three children die of child abuse or neglect. That is over a thousand unnecessary deaths per year. We realize that we can't change such a devastating occurrences overnight; however, we believe that every ounce of time and effort given to child abuse prevention organizations, both national and local, will help at least one child out there. During April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Sisters hand out blue ribbons all over the Binghamton University campus. We also dedicate a week to the awareness of child abuse, setting up forums and handing out pamphlets educating people about the devastating effects of child abuse.

SERVICE FOCUS: Delta Kappa Delta also focuses on the education of children. We strongly believe that as we help the children through not only their school, but also as mentors, we aid them through important lessons that they have to learn throughout life. The sisters of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Inc. strive to educate children in the local community through working with The Boys and Girls Club, The Broome County Urban League, and other programs such as Gear-Up. Since our establishment, we have completed over 500 hours of community service in the Binghamton area.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: Though a majority of our service is done together as Sisters, we do encourage and welcome the opportunity to do service with organizations as well as individuals who have the desire to help the community. Our commitment to service is steadfast and we would enjoy the chance to work with others in providing a welcoming shade of service. Please feel free to contact our Service Chair with any inquiries.
